STUDIO IV: Crescendo
Located in the Historic Motor Row district of Chicago, 2241-2243 South Michigan Avenue currently sits as a vacant lot, used only for occasional parking. However, as the neighborhood grows into a bustling arts district, the demand for affordable housing in the neighborhood grows as well. Given the site's proximity to colleges, the Loop, and the performing spaces nearby, this proposal transforms the vacant lot into an affordable, mixed-use complex for college students and young professionals, especially those in the performing arts and entertainment. With 22 units, ranging from studios to 3-bed apartments, as well as practice studios, two performance spaces, green technologies, and a cooperative urban farm and kitchen, Crescendo gives these young adults the opportunity to grow and thrive.
